Gateshead Millennium Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne, England (© Graeme Peacock/Alamy)
【August 4 2015】Several bridges allow passage across the River Tyne in Newcastle, England. But the tilting Gateshead Millennium Bridge does it with a wink and a smile. This pedestrian- and bicycle-only span opened in 2001. The curved shape of the span makes the trek across the river a little longer, but serves a functional purpose. When tall boats need to pass under the bridge, the Gateshead Bridge lifts up and the two arches – one a counterbalance, the other the actual bridge – leave enough room for boats to scoot underneath.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
