【February 8 2015】The dam on the Gordon River in Tasmania, Australia, was one of two proposed hydroelectric dams in the region. Both the Gordon and Franklin rivers flow between the Central Highlands and west coast of Tasmania, winding through a wilderness that has been preserved as a national park since 1908. By the time the Gordon Dam began operating in 1978, environmentalists had galvanized opposition to the construction of a similar dam on the environmentally sensitive Franklin River. Following one of the largest environmental debates in Australian history, plans for that dam were abandoned in 1983.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
