Pier at Old Orchard Beach, Maine (© Michael Orso/Tandem Stock)
【June 28 2014】The pier at Old Orchard Beach in Maine was the longest steel pier in the world when it opened in 1898. A storm lopped off 150 of its 1,825 feet soon after the opening, and though the pier was rebuilt, another storm a decade later reduced it to 700 feet. Our image captures the modern-day pier, built in 1980 after the previous incarnation had been destroyed in a blizzard. A more modest 500 feet in length, it’s still one of the highlights of Old Orchard Beach’s classic New England seaside attractions.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
