Lichen on rocks, Desolation Canyon, Utah (© Carr Clifton/Minden Pictures)
【May 3 2014】This lichen in Utah's Desolation Canyon has probably witnessed many visitors enjoying the canyon's rugged Western landscape. The Green River that flows for 83 miles through Desolation and Gray Canyons is one of the major draws to the area. Explorer John Wesley Powell was the first non-native to traverse and document the canyon in 1869. As populations expanded to the American West in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many settlers attempted to establish cattle ranches in the area, but the conditions proved too difficult for all but Rock Creek, the one ranch that remains here.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
