Long-tailed widowbird male in breeding plumage, Marievale Bird Sanctuary, South Africa (© Richard Du Toit/Corbis)
【October 15 2013】When male long-tailed widowbirds are on the lookout for a mate, they sport jet-black plumage and impractically long tail feathers. At least half of their tail feathers will be as long as 20 inches, and the longer the feathers, the more likely they are to attract a lady's attention. The female and nonbreeding males of the species have nondescript sandy feathers with a few dark streaks. That's right: the men have to dress up to get a date, while the women don't have to change a thing.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
