Fish traps in Kosi Bay, South Africa (© Michael Fay/Aurora Photos)
【November 25 2014】For centuries, the people of South Africa's Kosi Bay have used these ingenious traps to catch fish. What's the trick? Strong tidal currents wash masses of fish from the Indian Ocean into the four interlinked lakes of Kosi Bay. The fish work their way through the lakes, feeding on the nutrient-rich waters until they reach maturity. As they head back to sea to spawn, the fish are diverted by these wide gates made of reeds that corral them into small, round holding pens. There, when the tide goes out, they make easy targets for the locals' fishing spears.Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
