【November 23 2014】We've heard it before: Temperatures are rising, glaciers are shrinking. But here in the Patagonian Andes, the Perito Moreno glacier is actually growing. Some years, Perito Moreno grows so much it dams up Lake Argentino. Then summer temperatures and water pressure cause it to calve, but never reducing the glacier to its previous size. Scientists aren't sure why this glacier grows while most others around the globe are shrinking. One theory suggests Perito Moreno's steepness and elevation puts more of the glacier's mass in the region where snow accumulation contributes to ice growth.
