Autumn colors and Emigrant Peak, Paradise Valley, Montana (© Carol Polich/Lonely Planet)
【September 27 2014】Photographer Carol Polich took this picture of Emigrant Peak not far from her Montana backyard. A former music teacher, Polich started her photography career in the mid-1980s. Eventually she traveled to South Africa and Namibia to snap pictures of wildlife and landscapes. Polich won the National Geographic Traveler photo contest in '96, but says it was hard work and constantly submitting her work as a freelancer that got her photos noticed. Though she loves to travel, Polich shoots closer to home as well, photographing the inhabitants and terrain of Yellowstone, the Badlands, and other wilds of the West.
