The theme of TUV Rheinland's exhibition booth this year was cybersecurity. With the current fast growth of high technology, system operation and information transfer across areas or even across countries rely heavily on the Internet. Cybersecurity, therefore, becomes very important in people's daily life. It is also a challenge that requires significant attention from railway and metro operators while hacking and signaling interference are everywhere.

To pinpoint this, TUV Rheinland's expert delivered a speech during the conference and emphasized the importance of cybersecurity to the transportation industry, especially the railway sector. He shared with audiences the best practices in various countries, provided a glimpse of future trends and also demonstrated vividly how TUV Rheinland solutions can support our clients in achieving their goals. These topics drew attention from the audience and created discussions among them.

In addition, TUV Rheinland specially launched five railway safety expert posters and videos at booth E08 to allow visitors to better understand our safety solutions. These posters and videos provided a new angle from which viewers can understand engineers' professionalism and how we make our clients more successful. Many visitors stayed to watch the examples which highlight one of TUV Rheinland's core beliefs that 'What is invisible still matters'.

These stories are:

Vincent Tan - The Prophet of the Railway Safety Operation

On the day of Singapore's 50th anniversary of independence, three to five times more ridership was expected at an interchange station. To avoid a potential stampede, TUV Rheinland were selected to assess the Passenger Flow & Station Integrity ("PFSI"). With more than 20 emergency scenarios being simulated, we ended the project with a PFSI certificate. It was a successful day with no injury or stampedes.

Felix Fang - The Guardian of China's Maglev System

TUV Rheinland provided independent safety assessment for Shanghai High-speed Maglev, the world's first maglev line for commercial operation. Recently the locally-developed medium-low-speed maglev project has also come into operation. Felix is heavily involved in this project and in line with TUV Rheinland's stringent and independent spirit, he is the backbone of safety assurance for China's Maglev system.

Harrison Wang - The Driving Force Behind Rolling Stock Manufacturers from China to Europe

As a senior assessor, Harrison supports the clients to get TSI certified for their DMU/EMU export to Macedonia. He is familiar with European industry standards and has exclusive knowledge of the China industry. He has assisted clients in solving problems at all stages, coming up with feasible solutions, thus facilitating them to seamlessly enter into the European market.

Jennifer Wang - The "Wonder Woman" of Rail Safety

The Taoyuan International Airport MRT line is Taiwan's first MRT express connecting the city and the airport. Yet, certain regions have posed great challenges to the system design due to the steep topography. Jennifer coordinated with TUV Rheinland's global professionals to carry out production and installation inspections as well as laboratory tests. Using all of the resources at her disposal, Jennifer and the team ensured the trains can travel along a safe and reliable track.

Rover Jan - Safety Assurance of the Kaohsiung Light Rail System

The Kaohsiung Light Rail V&V project began in 2013. TUV Rheinland was invited to provide validation and verification services at every stage of the project from its design to operation. Rover led a professional team and for two years they worked night and day with whole-hearted dedication in order to ensure that the citizens of Kaohsiung can enjoy this new and convenient transportation with safety.
