Taipei is an ongoing design-driven experiment full of change and innovation, as exemplified by its slogan for World Design Capital (WDC) 2016: Adaptive City - Design In Motion. In the context of urban development, design goes way beyond the remodeling of properties to reconnect people and facilitate cooperation; it is a multi-disciplinary system of addressing concerns shared by all residents, while at the same time nurturing city-specific narratives. 

This explains why Taipei vows to further engage in designs at community, social and international levels; foster a surprise-packed metropolis through landscape and streetscape reinvention; and increase its global profile as well as tourist arrivals by marketing local designers on the world stage. Eventually, each resident of Taipei will be able to appreciate good design and urban evolution as a noticeable part of daily life. 

As the host city of WDC 2016, Taipei is offering a series of large-scale government initiatives with global participation (New Year’s Eve design competition, gala dinner, global city design show, forum on international design policies, unveiling of the next WDC host, etc.) apart from neighborhood makeovers, the “Meet Taipei: Design” project, crossover collaborations, and other global-meets-local events that are sure to be exciting!
