Since 1993, the opening of Chiayi City International Band Festival attracted only five teams to participate in the event. After the crowning of ＂international＂ title in December 1997, it stated to organize the Asia Band Festival in 2000. Chiayi City has transferred itself from a southern town into a band music city, and the band festival is the longest surviving activity in the Formosa Arts Festivals carried out by various counties and cities. Over the years, the Festival has invited performing teams from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and other countries to attend in the events. Through diverse event planning, the Festival has created one after another band music feasts and succeeded in narrowing the distance between people and the band music, so that the band music can be blended into people’s life, making Chiayi City a  ＂Cultural City, the Capital of Band Music＂ by shaping urban culture with band music, marketing the characteristics of the city, and promoting international exchanges.
