The Tropic of Cancer cuts across central Taiwan, dividing this beautiful island between the tropical and subtropical zone, with unique landscapes and rich produce/natural resources of different climates. The Tropic of Cancer cuts through Shuishang Township (Chiayi County) and Ruisui and Fengbin Townships (Hualien County), all of which have landmarks on the line. Another landmark is being planned for construction around Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf, scheduled for completion by April 2013. It will be the westernmost one on Taiwan island. The shape is based on the sun and sea atmosphere of Fisherman’s Wharf, with the number N23.5 transforming into two hearts, Cupid, wedding carriages, and other symbols of love. Romantic sculptures line the unique Tropic of Cancer Boulevard, marking the 23.5 degree north latitude line. The pathway also includes a world map of the countries crossed by the Tropic of Cancer, giving visitors the opportunity to appreciate the art while learning about the topic.
