  We had an interesting sampan ride around the harbour. Certainly well worth doing but, as many other reviewers have said, it was not as "quaint" as we were led to believe, and there was a lot of rubbish in the water. Good to see the contrasts though between the simple craft, house boats and the mega-luxury yachts.

  Our tour guide recommended we take a boat ride around Aberdeen harbor to see the fishing village. This was not what I expected to see when I heard the words "fishing village". We paid 100 Hong Kong dollars for the ride, about $13 US. We rode around in the harbor and saw various kinds of boats moored in the water.... More

  Aberdeen harbour was a beautiful place. When we visited on July 25 what we saw was unbelievable filthy. The water in the harbour was filled with plastic and foul smelling refuse. I can't believe the HK's tourist association recommend this place as a destination. What is worse is that locals say it is like this all the time.

  We were lucky when we travelled to Aberdeen as all the fishing boats were in the harbour, it's the time of year when no fishing is allowed. The sight was spectacular.   I was here 20 years ago and I have to say that it's not quite as quaint these days as it was then. The boats are all bigger and bit more industrial. However, it was still quite interesting to see how these folks live.

  This small fishing village is home to quaint painted sampans, large luxury yachts and liveaboard vessels. Jumbo Restaurant sits in the middle of this unique and old area of Hong Kong.
