At the early years of Tang Dynasty, Xuanzang – an eminent monk in China’s history – embarked on his 18-year-long pilgrim journey along the Silk Road west towards India Peninsula.

Built as a sacred venue to store the Buddhist scriptures fetched by Xuanzang from the India, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda located in Da Ci’en Temple was a 7-layer pavilion standing 64.5 meters in height, and is acclaimed as the oldest and biggest square-shaped brick pagoda left by Tang Dynasty in China today. As imitation to the Buddhist pagoda originated from India temple, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is a typical physical evidence to attest to the integration of India-originated Buddhist culture and traditional Chinese culture in Central China region.
