Data suggests Singaporeans could save as much as 48% on last-minute flights by choosing these Sakura alternatives over Tokyo

SINGAPORE, March 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Fancy viewing Japan's cherry blossom in the shadow of a volcano, or surrounded by Hiroshima's war time history?

As Sakura season approaches, global travel search engine Skyscanner (www.skyscanner.com.sg) reveals that some of the most dramatic destinations to catch Japan's famous cherry blossom are not only less crowded than hot-spots like Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo – but often also much cheaper to get to for last-minute trips from Singapore too.

According to the data from Skyscanner, last year Hiroshima and Kagoshima attracted just a fraction of the tourist interest of their better-known neighbours on Honshu - jointly receiving less than 1% of the searches from Singaporean tourists that Tokyo amassed on Skyscanner in 2016.

Not only good for beating the crowds though, Skyscanner's data also reveals that these lesser-visited spots could also be a cheaper alternative for Singaporeans looking to make a last-minute break this Spring.

Based on data from March 2016, last-minute flights to Hiroshima and Kagoshima from Singapore for travel in April were respectively 48% and 25% cheaper than flights to Tokyo*. And early indications suggest that there will be similar cost savings to be had on last-minute breaks this year too.

To help Singapore's holidaymakers plan their Sakura trips, Skyscanner today released a cherry blossom map (https://www.skyscanner.com.sg/press-releases/skyscanner-map-reveals-best-crowd-beating-spots-to-see-japans-cherry-blossom), with its hot tips for the country's best viewing spots - from these 'hidden gems' to Honshu's big cities.
