At the village we will be tempted by traders, mostly women in traditional costume. It is a tradition amongst the Hmong people for their women to have gold rings placed around their neck from childhood, the number being increased as they grow to increase their neck length and supposedly to make them look beautiful.
You will see the elephant paintings.Elephants are very intelligent animals and create the entire painting with great gusto and concentration. The only thing they cannot do on their own is to pick up a paintbrush, so it gets handed to them. The artist helper and keeper, or Mahout, will stand to the side as the elephant artist paints. They only hand the elephant a loaded brush as needed. The Mahout only assists in this way allowing the elephant to continue until the painting is complete.
