【February 16 2013】Like many European cities, Kraków's history reaches at least back to medieval times. A walk through the city is a glimpse of living history. Beneath Wawel Hill is a cave, guarded by a statue of a dragon. According to legend, a real dragon once terrorized Kraków residents, eating livestock and probably a few damsels. In some versions of the story, King Krakus defeated the dragon, while others say a lowly cobbler slew the serpent. No matter which version you read, it ends as most dragon-slaying stories do: happily ever after. By all accounts, Kraków is dragon-free.
