Today you'll have the opportunity to join pilgrims on the last stretch of the Santiago de Compostela route. Take an early bus to O Amenal village where the 15 kilometre walk begins. The trek will take you through the villages, fields and rivers of Galicia. In Lavacolla village you'll cross the river where medieval pilgrims traditionally bathed in the river to purify themselves before arriving in the holy city. From here, ascend again to the Monte do Gozo (‘Mount of Joy’), so called for the feeling when pilgrims would catch their first sight of the towers of Compostela Cathedral.
