All members of Indonesia FTTH Association (IFA) has declared their commitment to lead the development of Indonesia's ultra-broadband, boost ICT digital service transformation, and enhance industry chain cooperation to drive Indonesia's Digital Economy Agenda, witnessed by HE Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Information Technology of Republic of Indonesia

During this event, IFA's declaration was witnessed by HE Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Kristiono, Chairman of MASTEL, Suwanto Gunawan, Chairman of IFA, and Daniel Tang, CTO of Huawei Fixed Networkas well as all IFA members. IFA is a collaborative force comprising of technology operators, industry & corporate ecosystem leaders, standardizing bodies and special interest groups, which today include members like Telkom, Jababeka, MyRepublic, and Huawei. With a vision to build Indonesia digital highway network through FTTH technology, IFA as a part of MASTEL, will play an important role in the development of fixed broadband ecosystem, including the development of Smart City and government initiatives such as e-Government, e-Education, e-Health, as well as various other commercial services.

FTTH is now a fully standardized and mature technology, which has been widely adopted as the mainstream fixed broadband technology in the industry using fiber as the access media from home environment to metro networks. This technology provides up to 10Gbps shared bandwidth to subscribers. In Indonesia, the copper and cable line house penetration is below 15%, which means that 85% of the houses are not covered by either copper or cable. Therefore, FTTH will play a very important role in the home connection to ICT application, which will further drive the national economic growth.

"Today, the digital economy agenda is a priority for Indonesia and will be the backbone of our national economic growth. However, the number of broadband user has only reached 4.3 million people and the penetration of fixed broadband (FBB) has only reached 7% nationwide. There is a huge market gap to be filled and MASTEL, through IFA, are expected to push the development of fixed broadband market towards a new milestone by guiding the development of this area," said Suwanto Gunawan, Chairman of IFA.

IFA and MASTEL will collaborate to formulate the Right-of-Way regulations and promote infrastructure sharing between players; support and promote coordinated policies among the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to accelerate the deployment of fiber optic throughout Indonesia as part of the National Broadband Infrastructure and push sustainable development of fiber optic broadband as the core infrastructure to accelerate broadband and smart cities in Indonesia.

"We are confident that all members of IFA and other stakeholders of the ICT value chain will join and work together to drive one fixed broadband ecosystem play. We are optimistic of our capacity to bridge the gap that exists within the country's fixed broadband infrastructure ecosystem in order to accelerate the digital economy growth. MASTEL and IFA will play a very important role to accelerate ICT skills & literacy, social readiness, business models, partnership between government and private sectors," said Ir. Kristiono, Chairman of MASTEL.

Cities like Surabaya, Jakarta, Banyuwangi, Bandung and Banda Aceh have started a good foundation and have implemented the smart city concept. MASTEL and IFA have identified ultra broadband network upgrade opportunities based on FTTH technologies and will explore strategic collaboration interest starting with these cities to initiate pilot project with an aim to further optimize usage and harness full potential of its telecommunication and information technology infrastructure by all segments of its community.

Daniel Tang, Huawei CTO of Fixed Network, said "As a member of IFA, Huawei is proud to be given the recognition by its members and MASTEL as a leading thought leader in the areas of FTTH, ultra broadband and smart city development. Huawei will actively provide its support, infrastructure, best solution, global experiences and technology knowledge for the development of FTTH in Indonesia. We are 100% behind Indonesia Digital Economy transformation for Indonesians."
