By Stephen B. Young, Esq,Global Executive Director, The Caux Round TableFormer Dean and Professor of Law, Hamline University School of LawFormer Assistant Dean and Research Associate, Harvard University School of Law A presentation on the sociology of American politics Donald Trump's election to the Presidency of the United States last November surprised American social, political, economic, intellectual, and academic elites. Not really since Andrew Jackson in 1828 has a candidate of the middle and lower classes been elected over a candidate of the social elite. Trump's election was the result of a social rebellion of lower class White voters. The resentment of these voters had been slowly accumulating for 20 years without being noticed by most politicians and commentators. Steve Young will present data on the declining status of these Americans, conditions which led them to support an unknown outsider for President.
