Amada gave a summary of the recent history of Cyprus and the Cyprus conflict. As a Turkish Cypriot, I can tell you that Cyprus is neither Greek, nor Turkish. Cyprus belongs to Cypriots; to Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. We have been living together on this island for centuries. Extreme nationalists have contrary views: while one believes the island to be Greek, the other claims it's been Turkish since 1571! We had enough suffering because of the conflict, which took lives from both communities in late 50s, mid 60s, and in 1974. Reasonable Cypriots believe we can live together in a bi-zonal, bi-communal federal state, and our leaders are sincerely negotiating a mutually acceptable solution (which we hope will be put to referendum in 2016).
