The Grand Hall of Wat Maha That in the old Sukhothai Kingdom is composed of eleven large rooms. It is believed that there is also a niche behind the pedestal in which a bronze Buddha image, named Phra Sri Sakya Muni, was seated. Nearby are the statues of four distinctive gestures which are known as Phra Si Iriyabot. The statues show unique characteristics of the distinguished art in casting the image in Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kamphaeng Phet.

The Audience Hall or the former hall of the Palace of King Taksin the great now functions as the Museum of the Royal Thai Navy. It is a one-story Thai style building with three wings and a multitiered roof. The walls of the King’s bedchamber in the audience hall at the Ancient Siam are covered with murals painted by the story depicted is from the chronicles telling of the hard times in Thai history during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 A.D. and the establishment of Thon Buri as the country’s new capital. These historical events still evoke an emotional response in the collective memory of the Thai people-even today.

Rattanakosin (25th BE)
In the early Rattanakosin era, the Dusit Maha Prasat palace was an audience hall, where affairs of the state were conducted and royal ceremonies performed. The palace was built by King Rama I in 1806 A.D. The structure is a cruciform building with large high roofs. The Dusit Maha Prasat Palace in the Grand Palace is now the only remaining example of the traditional Thai palace left in Thailand. The gilded lacquer work between the windows chronicle the yearly succession of state ceremonies which were recorded by King Rama V. More precisely, the mural above the windows depict events of a governmental, religious, military and diplomatic nature and the traditional Thai way of life.
