【July 28 2013】Some consider these pointy sentinels, first designed some 3,000 years ago, to be the first surfboards. Peruvians call them caballitos de totora, or "little reed horses," although horses arrived here with the Spanish conquistadors much later, roughly 600 years ago. Locals use them for transportation and fishing on inland lakes as well as along the Pacific coast. Today, you might see more people than usual bobbing on the water in their boats: It's Peru's independence day! Explore breathtaking Gallery from the HuluTrip homepage over the past 5 years..
