【August 11 2014】Laterns like these will be lit in much of the Muslim world for the next month during observance of the holy month of fasting known as Ramadan. It's unclear why and when lanterns first became associated with the celebration of Ramadan, but they've become a unique and colorful symbol of the holiday, and are particularly beloved by children. Visitors here in the Djemaa el Fna market of Marrakesh, Morocco, will find plenty of these lanterns this time of year. It's one of the largest open-air markets in the world, and with dozens of stalls offering mouth-watering foods, there's plenty to tempt you here besides colorful lanterns.
