In every city there is a restaurant for selection. It alone will stand against the forces of poor service, rotten food, and quick queue times. This is Hongdae Eddle Steakhouse. As you are tasting succulent beef, it is seasoned and seared to seal in the juiciness and flavor, then slow-roasted 'til it is melt-in-your-mouth tender.

Chefs' Special Black Angus Steak

The editor had first-try and visited this steakhouse located in Hongdae after a rather sour experience at Hongdae circle, coming in and feeling disheveled and fatigued. However, the ambiance and general friendliness that was introduced to me by the staff quickly changed my mood. I was seated in a timely fashion and was introduced to my server Ann. She was kind and patient as I ordered my Black Angus Steak with fluent English. Noticing the restaurant seemed busy, I expected my order to arrive a tad late. To my surprise, my server returned with the food freshly cooked and steaming hot. It was seasoned to perfection with a lasting taste of black pepper sauce. I'm a sucker for Black Angus steak. You can't find these kind of meals anywhere else near Hongdae. I thanked my server for the appetizing meal but words were futile devices in describing how delectable the food was. What I expected to be your run of the mill variety Steakhouse turned out to be my saving grace and what I needed all along. I hope to return again someday to Hongdae Eddle limitless steak buffet.

Wine Pairing

Good wine is a perfect match for black angus steak. The rarer a steak is the more it will lessen the sensation of tannin in any accompanying wine. A young or comparatively young Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec, for instance, a rare steak will make it taste more mellow
The fattier a steak is the more robust a wine it needs. Rhone reds or other syrah or GSM (grenache/syrah/mourvèdre) blends are perfectly suited to ribeye steaks while a leaner fillet steak pairs better with a pinot noir. The more charred (and therefore bitter) a steak is the more ripeness/sweetness you want in your wine. A Coonawarra or Napa Valley Cabernet for example or a wine like this South African Cabernet. Sauces make a difference. A rich red wine sauce like this one will need a wine that can stand up to it like a Malbec or a good quality red Bordeaux. With a peppercorn sauce you don’t want a wine that’s too oaky and/or high in alcohol or it may make each mouthful too spicy. A ripe Rhone red or Supertuscan should both work well. With a béarnaise sauce a pinot again is a good match or you could even drink a rich white like a Meursault or other full-bodied chardonnay. If you’re serving an older red ease back on the saucing and serve the wine with its natural juices. If it’s a very old vintage you might even want to serve the black angus steak medium-rare. My top 5 favourite wines for black angus steak is Malbec (especially Argentinian malbec), Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz/syrah and syrah blends e.g. with grenache and mourvèdre, Supertuscans’ and other modern Tuscan reds.
