Artistic gymnastics legend Catalania Ponor said after a training session in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday (4 August) that while she was missing her Romanian team-mates, who failed to qualify for the Olympic Games, she was enjoying the experience of not having to carry the rest of the team

The Romanian team have won a medal at every Olympic Games since 1976 but failed to qualify for Rio 2016

"I have been in two Olympics with a team and I miss my teammates being here to enjoy the Olympic experience,"said Ponor, a three-time Olympic gold medallist

"But at the same time it took a little pressure off my shoulders because I don't have to carry a team

"If I make mistakes by myself then it's on my hands

If I don't do anything it's my fault

" Ponor has twice retired from gymnastics but said on Thursday she found the lure of competition irresistible

"Gymnastics for me is like a drug: when you go to rehab and you finish and after that you want it again

"It (gymnastics) is my family, I grew up with this

I've been at training camps all my life, with teammates and coaches, and it's pretty hard after you leave gymnastics to just stay home and to not see your team-mates or coaches
