The Olympic Games are finally here with the opening ceremony at the Maracanã on Friday (5 August) kicking off a three-week extravaganza of sport

To mark the occasion, Twitter has released 207 brand new team emojis so that fans across the globe can share their passion and follow their favourite teams

Tweeting with the three-letter country code hashtags will trigger flag emojis for each of the countries, including the Refugee Olympic Team (#ROT)

While the country flags and sport icons make up most of the emojis, there are more general hashtags that go along with the Olympic Games, medals and the ceremonies

Athletes and fans alike have already started to get in the spirit of the games by promoting their team or their sport with the hashtags and emojis
