The final line-up of the divers who will thrill the crowds at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was confirmed by FINA, the international federation for aquatic sports, on Wednesday (6 July)

Among the star names are British diving pin-up Tom Daley and Chinese prodigy Qian Ren, who scored a perfect 10 on her way to gold in the individual 10m platform at the Rio 2016 test event at the renovated Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre in February

The diving events will begin on 7 August and run until 20 August, featuring 136 athletes, 88 of whom qualified at the FINA Diving World Cup in Rio, which doubled up as the test event

The Chinese, who won six of the eight available gold medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games, dominated the test event in Barra Olympic Park, with 15-year-old Qian producing the dive of the tournament

They will represented by 13 divers at Rio 2016

The 21-year-old, who made his Olympic debut in Beijing at just 14 years old, is in the hunt for his first gold in August

"I want to go out there and win an Olympic gold medal," Daley said in an interview with BBC Sport

“I feel like I'm at my peak in terms of strength and conditioning, my consistency and the degree of difficulty with my routines

" Daley will compete in the 10m platform and alongside Dan Goodfellow in the synchronised 10m

The duo, who won European silver together in May, will hope to improve on Britain's best-ever diving medal haul at an Olympics: two at the 1960 Rome Games

From Jamaica with love In what could be a new Cool Runnings story, Jamaican diver Yona Knight-Wisdom will become the country’s first male Olympian in the sport

The 20-year-old, who was born in England to a Jamaican father and Barbadian mother, admited he was "absolutely shocked" after earning an Olympic spot by taking silver in the 3m springboard at the test event

Jamaica has only had one other diver at the Olympic Games, Betsy Sullivan at Munich 1972 , and Yona-Knight, who initially did not make the British diving team, hopes that his achievement will encourage others to reach beyond their expectations

“It should inspire people to try new things,” he said

“Don’t be limited to what is normal and what is safe

Don’t be afraid to go against the odds

com is not an absolute authority on qualification for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is an ongoing process

Final places will only be confirmed in July 2016 (for the Olympic Games) and August 2016 (for the Paralympic Games)

The qualification systems are defined by each sport’s respective International Federation and the International Olympic Committee or International Paralympic Committee, and are subject to change

When an athlete or team wins a quota place for their nation, the final decision on whether this ‘slot’ is used and which athletes are sent is taken by the respective National Olympic Committee or National Paralympic Committee (NOC or NPC)

Even when athletes win a ‘nominal’ place for themselves, NOCs/NPCs may have to decide who to send if the number of qualified athletes from one country exceeds the quota
