Spain's women rugby sevens team have claimed the last qualification place at Rio 2016, just one week after the country's men's team booked their tickets to Brazil

Spain defeated Russia 19-12 in the final of the Olympic repechage tournament in Dublin on Sunday (26 June) to seal a historic double

In contrast to the men's tournament last week, the Spanish women were favourites going into the competition and reached the final without conceding a single point

Supported by a large crowd of Spanish expatriates in Dublin, 'Las Leonas'  took the lead when playmaker Patricia Garcia spotted a gap and darted over from close range after six minutes

Garcia then scored again before half-time before the Russians cut the deficit thanks to a spectacular individual try from Daria Bobkova

After another strong run from Garcia, Barbara Pla extended Spain's lead in the second half

The Russians were unable to find a way through the powerful Spanish defence and Spain claimed a well-deserved place in Rio

“We are the happiest girls in the world at the moment because now we get to go to the biggest sporting stage of them all in Rio

It’s an incredible feeling,” try-scoring heroine Garcia said

“Our men qualifying last week has been the inspiration for us all week

We took their example with the teamwork we showed

" Spain's qualification means they will take their place alongside Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Great Britain, USA, France, Japan, Fiji, Kenya, Colombia and host nation Brazil when the women's competition gets underway on 6 August

All rugby matches at Rio 2016 will be played in Deodoro Olympic Park in western Rio

Rio 2016 will be the first time that rugby has appeared at the Olympic Games since 1924

This Tuesday (28 June), the draws for the men's and women's rugby sevens competitions will take place in the host city
