"I have never seen a city transformed in the way that Rio de Janeiro has been transformed," Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on a visit to Brazil to last week

A new video from Rio's city hall documents that transformation, with less than 50 days to go until the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on 5 August

The film starts with spectacular views of the recently inaugurated Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) and Museu de Arte do Rio (Art Museum of Rio), both in Rio's renovated waterfront district

Viewers are then treated to shots of recently arrived high-tech trams making their way through central Rio and aerial views of the new roads, tunnels and Bus Rapid Transit corridors that now criss-cross the Olympic city

The film then moves on to the Olympic venues that have been built or renovated for the Games, many of which will be open to the public while others will be converted into schools following the end of the festivities

The video concludes with examples of how recent investments have provided residents, especially children, with access to new opportunities for sport and leisure and new facilities for education and healthcare

A recent report from credit rating agency Moody's estimated that the Games have generated over US$7 billion of infrastructure investments in Rio, the same amount as the entire 2014 World Cup investment in 12 Brazilian cities

"Olympic-related investments will drive long-lasting infrastructure improvements in public transportation and urban mobility," Moody's said

"Hosting the Olympics will permanently improve Rio's infrastructure and labour force
