She already has two Olympic gold medals and is set to be one of the stars of the Rio 2016 Games

But now US gymnastics prodigy Gabby Douglas has gracefully swung to a new level of stardom, launching her own set of emojis to join a growing list of celebrities who have been immortalised in pictographic form

Douglas announced ‘Gabbymoji’ on her Instagram, creating a huge pre-Games buzz amongst gymnastics fans around the world

The app allows iPhone and Android users to message each other using images, GIFS, expressions and videos

It also includes an emoji keyboard and dozens of ‘Gabby-inspired’ emojis depicting the young gymnast’s signature moves and empowering messages

“I am so excited about the release of my new Gabbymoji keyboard!” Douglas told Teen Vogue

“My dream was to create a fun app that is full of emojis for anyone to use to express their feelings with entertaining pictures

” Douglas was one of the stars of the London 2012 Olympic Games, where she became the first African-American woman to win gold in the individual all-round event and the first American woman to win gold in both individual and team all-round competitions at the same event

Nicknamed the ‘Flying Squirrel’ on account of her acrobatic mastery of the uneven bars, she was a key member of US team dubbed the ‘Fierce Five’, alongside McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber

At last year's world championships, Douglas was part of the USA's gold-medal winning team and also took individual all-round silver behind former room-mate and fellow African-American Simone, who became the first woman to win three consecutive world all-round titles

Simone is also set to dazzle in Rio, especially after she introduced elements of samba into her floor routine

Today, as she prepares for her second Olympic appearance, Douglas has become a role model to many aspiring young athletes

And judging by the array of empowering and motivational content on Gabbymoji (see image below), it is clear the 20-year-old wants to continue to inspire, whether it is simply to brighten up someone’s day or motivate the next Olympic champion

Gabby Douglas will take to the mats in Rio on August 6 and her app Gabbymoji is available on iOS and Android for US$1
