The Olympic flame for the Rio 2016 Games was lit in Olympia on 21 April and after a short tour of Greece – which saw it carried by a refugee in Athens – it was handed over to Rio 2016 and taken to visit the United Nations and Olympic Museum in Switzerland

On Tuesday (3 May) it will arrive by plane in Brasília, the capital of the host nation, from where it will embark on a 95-day relay involving about 12,000 torchbearers that will showcase the diverse beauty of Brazil
