This has to be one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world.

To welcome the New Year, a fleet of boats, pontoons and barges set up in the middle of Victoria Harbour launches the pyrothecnic wonder as the sky above the harbour explodes in bursts of shimmering color on a breathtaking show that lasts approximately 25 to 30 minutes.
1.Which side of the harbour? As a general rule, you should watch from whatever side you are staying and plan on walking. Trying to catch a taxi or the packed MTR on the way home when every one else is also trying to do the same is quite challenging to say the least.

Our favourite spot to watch is from the Tsim Sha Tsui side with Victoria Peak and the Central Skyline in the background, you can watch all along the Promenade and the Avenue of the Stars from the Star Ferry Terminal to the New World Centre in the East.
2.Another popular vantage point for fireworks is the Hung Hom Bypass which is closed to traffic between Salisbury Road and Hung Hom Road.

If staying in the Hong Kong Island side, consider the area around the Convention Centre and Bauhinia Square or anywhere along the Central Waterfront Promenade that extends from the Central Star Ferry Pier to Tamar Park and has elevated walkways for great views.

Macau

1. Macau Tower

For those with an adventurous streak, what more adrenaline-inducing way to view the show than from the Macau Tower Skywalk! 2. The Waterfront
The fireworks are set off near waterfront at the bottom of Macau Tower making Praia Grande and Nam Van Lake perfect viewing spots. However, the crowds realise this and you’ll be vying for position! Be sure to arrive early, to secure your standing ground.

Another suggestion is to find Ave. de Republica which runs behind Sai Van Lake. Find a spot on the lake wall and watch the show. You’ll get some beautiful photos of the fireworks reflecting off the lake in the foreground. We hear that lakeside restaurants such as Henri’s Gallery and Ali Curry House are tasty places to grab a bite whilst watching the spectacular show.
3. Peninsula side
Staying on Macau Peninsula will give you a closer view of the firework carnival. If you possibly can, try to get a window table at the Italian restaurant of the Wynn resort or a private room in the Chinese restaurant. You may be paying a little more for the luxury, but you won’t have to deal with the crowds. For a more budget option, the fountain square in front of the Wynn is a cheaper alternative.
