It s rather pointless if your long term unemployed. Newstart is far below the tax free threshold and any you pay your going to get back anyway.

A good employer can calculate the tax to deduct without that happening but even if they don't, you get back the overpayment when you lodge your tax return. Inconvenient, but not unfair.

Correct Brooky, as a payroll officer myself I always adjusted the tax to suit the number of days/weeks being taken, so there was absolutely no difference to being paid weekly.
