Butter on toast for breakfast, Yes. PB&J for breakfast, No.

PB&J for breakfast on toast is such a standard breakfast that it comes in individual sealed packages at many hotels or B&B's in the baskets.

There are over 300 million people in the USA and by no means does everyone use the same combination of spreads. Tastes vary. I can say, however, that jam, chocolate spread and peanut butter is not a common combination.

the classic PBJ on Wonder Bread is an American staple for all kids. peanut butter, jelly, or jam on toast is also a solid tradition.

Nutella is gaining popularity though. Vegemite and Marmite are just nasty.

as for our bread.. White bread is still most popular. wheat, rye, and others are used as well, just less often especially in the average Middle American household with young kids.
