A-mei chose Utopia as the title for the tour because, other than the fact that it is the closing song of her latest album Faces of Paranoia, it suggests an ideal world, and she hopes to bring her audience to a place where there is only happiness and love through her music. For the concerts, she and her alter ego Amit will once again share the stage. To prepare for her performance, she reported rented the use of a stadium in Shanghai for a week’s rehearsals prior to the first concert day – 5 days to rehearse the 5 individual segments for the concert, followed by 2 days of run-throughs. – with pre-concert preparation costs already amounting to 3.5 million USD. A-mei is quite the perfectionist when it comes to music, and if anything, this really shows her dedication to her art and performance.
Recently crowned the Best Mandarin Female Singer at Taiwan’s 26th Golden Melody Awards, the music icon kicked off her world tour, “aMEI|AMIT UTOPIA World Tour”, in Taipei this April, putting up 10 shows consecutively, with 120,000 tickets sold within 12 minutes of going on sale!
