Be part of a unique wilderness expedition through Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole

Here, in a remote corner of Wyoming, was where it all began. Home to wolves, grizzlies and the densest concentration of geysers on the planet, Yellowstone was not just America’s, but the whole world’s very first national park. Join us on this special expedition as we tour the highlights of the park – Old Faithful, the Fountain Paint Pots and Yellowstone’s own Grand Canyon – before heading deeper into the wilderness for a full day of hiking. Unlike many tours, this trip also takes in the natural wonders of nearby Grand Teton National Park. Camp on secluded Grassy Island, explore Jackson Lake by kayak and float down the Snake River as eagles swoop in the air above. Designed so you have enough time to get under the skin of each place, this adventure is truly a walk (and a paddle) on the wild side.
Warning - this is a new trip for us!
While we have thoroughly researched this area to put together this trip, it still must be remembered that this is a relatively new trip for us. To be frank, we expect some things to go wrong. When we head to new destinations, we usually find there are more pleasant surprises in store than unpleasant ones, but the warning is sincere. If it concerns you then we recommend that you wait for a year until we get any bugs ironed out.

Welcome to the USA. On arrival, join your group for a welcome meeting at 6 pm. Please look for a note in the hotel lobby or ask reception where it will take place. Drive to Yellowstone National Park (approx 2-3 hours). Spend the day getting acquainted with the park on a driving tour with a few short hikes as a warm up to the following day's activities. See Old Faithful, the Fountain Paint Pots and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone among many other geological wonders. Short walks on wooden platforms allow us to walk around the geysers, staring into their epicentres of fantastic turquoise colours, all with the familiar scent of sulphur in the air. This park is also home to grizzlies, elk, deer, wolves, coyotes and a host of other creatures. However, the most notable resident is the American bison. These incredible animals roam freely in herds throughout the park and often use the park roads as well (not to mention wandering through the campgrounds). Today is about exploring areas of the park more in depth on some longer hikes. Your leader will be able to recommend the best spots as well as shuttle people around the park. If you are feeling very active, perhaps tackle Mt Washburn for great views all the way over the Tetons. If something flatter takes your fancy, then try one of the lake trails such as Clear Lake. Other favourites include the Fairy Falls hike and the Lone Star Geyser trail. In the evening you'll return to the campsite for another night.

After breakfast you will pack up camp and transfer down to Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Here you'll launch your kayaks and head towards Grassy Island, which is where you'll make our camp for the next two nights. If time permits, you can head to the shore of Moran Bay and take a hike up Moran Canyon. This is a great place for wildlife-spotting, especially moose, elk, coyotes, black bears and maybe even a beaver. Special Information

Wake up to sunrise over Jackson Lake before getting back in the kayaks and paddling to Bearpaw Bay. Here you'll hop out of the kayaks and set off on foot on a hike to Paintbrush Canyon, where you'll find great views of Leigh and Jackson Lakes. In the afternoon, return to the kayaks and paddle back to Grassy Island for another night of camping.

After breakfast and packing up camp, paddle back to the boat ramp where you'll leave the kayaks behind and travel by van to the Snake River, where you'll commence a float trip along the base of the Tetons. This will be a much more relaxing excursion than those of the previous days. No paddling is required. All you need to do is sit back and watch the scenery go past. Keep an eye out for pronghorns and moose grazing along the edge of the river, and for eagles soaring above or nesting in the treetops. Take-out further down river and then return to Jackson in the late afternoon. After checking in to your lodge you'll be able to have a long-awaited shower, before perhaps heading out for dinner with the group to celebrate your achievements over the past few days.
