Maximizing the Use of Social Networks in Classroom Environments Workshop Descriptor: Creativity is one of the top needed skills for the 21 Century. However students no longer create in a vacuum, they are part of a social, mobile landscape. How do we help students; create content, build authentic audiences, apply critical thinking skills to curate the content that they consume? How can we harness social media environments to connect with other learners, refine their personal brand and develop digital citizenship skills in authentic ways? In this workshop we will explore these questions and develop skills and strategies to support learners use of social networks for learning. Participants will: Develop a deeper understanding of the SAMR model Explore examples of student creation using social media tools Learn how to manage and apply social media tools in classrooms Practice developing creativity and innovation with social media tools Apply what we have learned in order to successfully teach lessons about social networks Audience: This workshop is suitable for any educators interested in understanding and applying social networks into the class/school. Workshop Leader Biography: Tosca Killoran Tosca Killoran has been teaching in the IB international community in Asia and Europe since 2000. Tosca acts as an EDTech consultant to international schools as well as a presenter and keynote speaker at conferences and professional development sessions. As a doctoral student, Tosca’s published research focuses on innovation in education. She co-founded ED-ucation Publishing, founded TEDxYouth@BIS, and TEDxYouth@NIST in order to give a voice to #youthchangemakers. She is an Amazon bestseller author of children’s books, a website designer and app creative director. Her passion is character education, connected communities and providing opportunities for learners to grow. The shuttle service will run from 8:00 am on the 31st October and the 1st November, and will do the reverse and drop people off at the end of the day. Note: If you are staying at U Sukhumvit (300 meters from NIST) and the Kingston Suites (700 meters from NIST) and would like to walk, you should turn left as you come out of the hotel and keep walking towards the end of the Soi, the school will be on your right hand side. The Kingston Suites and U Sukhumvit also have shuttle services that can take guests to nearby places, including NIST Internaitonal School, the nearest Sky Train station, Terminal 21, etc.
