Jeonju Hanbok Village(Slow City)
Jeonju Hanok Village is located in the city of Jeonju and overlaps Pungnam-dong and Gyo-dong. There are over 800 traditional Korean hanok houses. While the rest of city has been industrialized, Hanok Village retains its historical charms and traditions.
Inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Jeonju Hanbok Village is the representative of Korean traditional culture. It has many cutural facilities, such as,Jeonju Hanji Museum, Gyeonggijeon Shrine,Jeonju Hyanggyo.
Jeonju Hanji Museum
As Korea’s first museum specializing in paper it has an extensive collection of 3,000 artifacts and a data-base documenting the long history and superiority of Hanji (Korean paper). The museum also hosts two special exhibitions every year with diverse paper-related themes. In Hanji Museum, you can know the history of hanji and the hanji used in daily life.
Gyeonggijeon Shrine
Gyeonggijeon Shrine was erected in 1410 and holds the portrait of King Tae-jo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. As it is surrounded by stunning scenery, it is often used as the setting for films and dramas.
Jeondong Cathedral
Jeondong Catholic Cathedral is made of gray and red bricks and bears a striking resemblance to the Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. Not only considered one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in Korea, some even go so far as to say it is one of the most beautiful structures in all of Korea, citing the church’s unique combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles.
Jeonju Hyanggyo
Jeonju Hyanggyo is a Confucian school that was established during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).The mortuary tablets of seven Chinese Confucian scholars and 18 Korean scholars are enshrined in the main building of Daeseong-jeon.
It is also the setting of Korean drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal, starred by Park Yoochun, Park Min-young and Song Joong-ki!
