Lucas Rodríguez, who won silver at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games and bronze at Beijing 2008, says his team is training hard to get a place on the podium: “We have just under one year of work left until Rio 2016, we have to train very hard, but we also want to enjoy the preparation and the competition,” he said

”Los Murciélagos confirmed their place in Rio by finishing runners-up at the 2014 World Championships in Tokyo

They were defeated 1-0 after extra time in the final by their great rivals Brazil, who already had their place in Rio confirmed as hosts, thus the berth was passed to Argentina

In August this year, Brazil beat Argentina once again – by a narrow 2-1 margin – in the final of the Parapan American Games in Toronto

Focused on Toronto, Brazil had not attended the IBSA World Games in May in Seoul, leaving the way open for Argentina to win football 5-a-side won gold

Rodríguez was their key man as they overturned 1-0 deficit against Great Britain to triumph 2-1 in extra time

He knows Brazil will be the major obstacle in Los Murciélagos’ quest for gold in Rio, but he emphasised that their rivalry with the nation where Argentinians are known as Os Hermanos (the brothers) is always good natured

And he told fans to expect a beautiful spectacle if the two sides meet next year

“Both countries are world powers in football for people without visual impairments, but football 5-a-side also offers a great show when these two teams meet,” Rodríguez said
