Some of the world’s top volleyball players have given their glowing approval to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games venue for their sport, after the successful completion of the test event

The FIVB World League finals took place at the Maracanãzinho between 15-19 July, with France triumphing in Sunday’s final

During the event, staff and volunteers from the Rio 2016 Organising Committee worked in the operation of the competition area, including preparation and maintenance of the court, audience entertainment, anti-doping testing and results technology

“The Maracanãzinho is an amazing arena with a great atmosphere,” said France captain Benjamin Toniutti

“Having the World League is a good test for Rio 2016 and everything was perfect at the gymnasium

It’s going to be a great venue for the Olympic Games

”Serbia coach Nikola Grbic – who as a player won Olympic gold at the Sydney 2000 Games and a bronze at Atlanta 1996, plus silver at Maracanãzinho in the 2008 World League finals – was also full of praise for the Rio venue

“They have some great stadiums all around the world, but I like this so much,” he said

“This one is just right for volleyball, it is one of the best I’ve ever played in

”The USA secured third place with a 3-0 win over world champions Poland, and their wing spiker Taylor Sander was hugely enthusiastic in his praise of the Maracanãzinho

“I can't see any point in which it could be better, I think it’s perfect for Rio 2016,” he said

“It’s a great place for us to play, everything is very professional we are lucky

It’s one of the best in the world

“It was crazy, a great atmosphere to play in,” said USA outside hitter Matthew Anderson after the World League finals

“It was full of fans, the lighting was great

We obviously hope for a different situation (than in London) next year
